Business Days Between Two Dates

About this calculator

Calculate the number of weekdays (Monday–Friday) between two dates. Weekends are excluded from the count. This is different from a simple day count because it only counts the days when most businesses and offices are open.

How it works

Unlike other calculators that use simple division, the business days calculator walks through each day between your two dates one at a time. For each day, it checks whether it falls on a Monday through Friday (a weekday) or a Saturday/Sunday (a weekend day). Only weekdays are counted. This day-by-day iteration ensures accurate results even across months with different lengths.

When to use this calculator

Calculate shipping delivery windows (most carriers count business days, not calendar days). Determine project deadlines when work only happens on weekdays. HR departments use business day counts for probation periods, notice periods, and PTO accrual. Legal deadlines like court filing windows and regulatory response periods are often specified in business days.

Examples

From a Monday to the following Monday is 5 business days — the two weekend days in between are skipped.

A "10 business day" shipping estimate placed on a Friday lands about two calendar weeks later, because two full weekends fall inside the window.

Frequently asked questions

Are public holidays excluded?

No. Only Saturdays and Sundays are removed, because public holidays vary by country, region, and employer. Subtract any holidays that fall in your range manually — see our guide to working days for the U.S. federal list.

Is the start or end date counted?

The calculator counts each weekday within the range. Whether you include the start date depends on your use case — shipping and notice periods usually begin counting from the next business day.

How many business days are in a typical month?

About 21 to 23, depending on how the weekends fall and whether the month has 28 to 31 days.
